We’re continuing to stay on top of state, county, and city level closures that affect area businesses, and we will continue to update this page; however, we want to point you to Cape May Strong, which is constantly updating their directory of open businesses.
Governor Murphy asks everyone to stay at home. The state discourages all non-essential and non-emergency travel until further notice.
In response to the threat of COVID-19, the following Cape May businesses are temporarily or partially closed in order to prevent the spread. We will continue to update this page as the situation changes.
Accommodations
Cape May hotels are allowed to reopen beginning June 1st.
Short-term rentals are allowed to reopen beginning May 30th; long-term rentals (30 days or more) resumed May 11th.
Campgrounds are reopened by the state as of May 22nd.
Beach and Promenade
On May 2nd at 8 a.m., Cape May City beaches reopened for walking, jogging, running, surfing, and fishing. People must maintain a six-foot distance from each other and wear masks while passing others.
Swimming can resume starting May 30th at 10 a.m.
Sitting on chairs or on blankets, picnics, and congregating in groups are still prohibited on the beaches.
The Promenade reopened on May 2nd for walking and jogging. Please maintain a six-foot distance from other people, and wear a mask/face covering while passing other people. For your protection, please don’t use the benches at this time because of cross-contamination concerns. Restrooms remain closed.
Golf Courses
NJ Executive Order 133 reopened golf courses for the state beginning May 2, 2020. Golf center buildings, pro shops, and eat-in restaurants are still closed. Currently, there are no equipment rentals, and tee times are 16 minutes apart. Tee times are restricted to two people, unless a foursome is immediately family, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners.
Miniature golf courses are still closed.
Restaurants & Food Service
All NJ restaurants and bars are closed for eat-in services across New Jersey effective 8pm on March 16 and will remain closed until further notice. Takeout/delivery service only.

Other food providers & grocery stores
Acme Markets – Both their Cape May and North Cape May locations are open. Monday-Friday from 7am – 9am, senior citizens and other at-risk members of the community have reserved shopping.
Beach Plum Farm – The farm market is open for fresh eggs, vegetables, and meats. See their Instagram post.
CVS Pharmacy – Open daily. Delivery also available through InstaCart. See their Facebook Page.
The Lobster House Fish Market – The Lobster House has reopened the Fish Market starting May 19.
Matthew’s Seafood – They’re in Cape May Court House, but they’ll deliver fresh seafood to Cape May. See their Instagram post
Westside Market – Closed through March 31. See their Facebook Post.
Shops & Services
Indoor shopping malls, gyms, salons, spas, tattoo parlors, and social clubs are temporarily closed by the state. Non-essential retail businesses had to close their physical stores as of March 21 at 9pm, but curbside pickup and delivery are permitted.

Other closures/changes
The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended guest attendance at graduation ceremonies, but they will live stream the ceremony. See their Facebook post
All Cape May County schools are closing beginning March 17.
Atlantic Cape Community College is holding all of their classes online. Students can register online or by calling 609-463-4774.
Cape May-Lewes Ferry is temporarily ceasing foot passenger tickets and will accept vehicle traffic only starting March 18. See more on their website.
Cape May County Libraries – Closed until at least April 1 or further notice, but you can get a library card online. See their Facebook Page.
Cape May County Parks and Zoo – Closed until further notice, but they’re offering Virtual Zoo School weekdays at 11:30am on Facebook. See county website • See the zoo’s Facebook Page.
Cape May Restaurant Week will happen in 2020, but the date will depend on when restaurants can reopen.
The Coast Guard Community Festival is cancelled for 2020.
The Exit Zero Jazz Festival Rescheduled to June 5-7. See their website.
Feasting on History is cancelled.
The Mid-Atlantic Center aka MAC – All public programs are suspended through April 2. This includes the Physick Estate, lighthouse, WWII tower, and all trolley tours. See their website for full announcement.
Morey’s Piers – Postponing opening until Mother’s Day Weekend. See their Instagram post.
The Museum of Cape May County – All events cancelled. Their on-site research library is closed through April 5. See Facebook post.
Singer-Songwriter Cape May has canceled all events.
