Cape May, March 7-8 Cape May's first Singer-Songwriter Weekend was a roaring success. Over 100 bands and performers appeared in 12 venues throughout the city Friday and Saturday nights. Pictured here: Robert Hazard, appearing at Congress Hall Ballroom.

April

The rain held off Saturday, April 5 and members of the Cape May Dog Friendly Association launched their new dog park on Lafayette Street. Alison Bjork (pictured at right with Mickey) along with Dawn DeMayo and others have been working on the idea with city officials for 18 months.

May

May 12 A nor'easter hit the island with winds gusting up to 40 knots and 21-foot-waves. Although power, except for flickering interruptions, remained on for most of the island, powers lines did reportedly go down on Jefferson Street and New York Avenue. Those streets were blocked off as well as Lafayette Street at the Cape May City Elementary School.

The 2008 Legends of the Chalfonte gathering took place June 4th and guests didn’t have too far to look for this year’s recipients - they were all Chalfonte Hotel staff members, former staff members or owners.

June 20-21 was the first Harbor Fest to celebrate the newly refurbished Cape May Harbor. Festivities began Friday, June 20 with a blessing of the waters.

Mayor Jerome E. Inderwies (left) cuts the ribbon, along with a former Cape May mayor, Arthur Blomkvest, signifying the June 21 rededication of the newly renovated Washington Street Mall. The rededication ceremony took place at 10 a.m. with singing by the Cape Haromonaires Barber Shop Chorus and a dove release by Cape May Carriage owner, Beverly Carr. See more pictures

Cape May, October 10 - Forbes magazine asked five experts to rank the top 20 prettiest towns in America and Bob Krist, author of Travel Photography: Documenting the World’s People and Places and host of PBS’ Restoration Stories, chose Cape May. “Integrity of the traditional architecture," was the key for photographer Bon Krist when picking Cape May as one of America's "prettiest" towns.
