The South Jersey Marina charter fleet continued to have success with Flounder and Croaker in the Delaware Bay. The sizes are getting bigger and the quantityremains high.

The offshore fishing has been good as well:
Cap't. Bittmann on the "Top Shelf" brought in three large Bluefin Tuna on Monday, 7/25. They were all in the 65-70 pound class. Two measured 46" and the largest was 48"

"Ocean Trophy" had a 48 lb. Yellowfin on 7/26 and on 7/27 the "Noreaster" had 4 Yellowfin and 2 Bluefin Tuna.

On 7/28, "Intensity", Cap't. John Ball weighed in a
78 lb. Bluefin Tuna and two smaller ones also

The Inshore fishing this week was nothing less than spectacular for the South Jersey Marina Charter Fleet. Fifteen trips were taken into the Delaware Bay in search of Flounder and Croaker and every boat came back loaded...with Croaker. Each boat in the fleet AVERAGED over 100 fish per trip. This is great news for the anglers who took home a nice bag of good-eating fish, but not so good news for the fish cleaner. One can't imagine the difficult task it is to filet, skin and bag that many fish in a single week.

The offshore fishing was highlighted by the running of our 4th. Annual Mid-Atlantic Tuna Tournament. Sixty five boats entered and fished two days out of three searching for Yellowfin and Bluefin Tuna. The BIG winner results are as follows:

Total Purse = $253,845
Heaviest Bluefin-126 lbs.... Miss Andrea.....$83,285
Heaviest Yellowfin-65 lbs... Size Matters....$65,847 2nd
Heaviest Bluefin-119 lbs...Mo-Jo..... ..$40,532 2nd
Heaviest Yellowfin-41 lbs..Coffee Break.$34,740

The Bluefin Tuna remained in our East Lump area and several charter boats from South Jersey Marina succeeded in keeping their limit of 2 fish of legal size. They weighed approximately 25-35 pounds.

These are the boats that registered their catches with me: Gallant Lady, Top Shelf, Slammer, Common Sense, All Geared Up and Hooked Up. In addition to these keepers, many Bluefin were caught and released during the week.
The Common Sense Charter included the two Lippen brothers ages 9 and 12. They reeled those two 25 pounders in all by themselves.
The Yellowfin Tuna have returned to our offshore fishing grounds. An Ocean Trophy charter went out on Tuesday to the Baltimore Canyon and caught six good sized fish. Inshore fishing in the Delaware Bay produced a great catch for the Gallant Lady; They were targeting flounder and caught an 8.4 pounder, tying our Marina record for the season. In addition, they "bailed" 104 Croakers to complete quite a nice days catch.

GOOD NEWS: The Yellowfin Tuna have arrived in our waters. We have reliable reports that several were caught in the Baltimore Canyon
Thursday and Friday of this week. This marks the beginning of our
offshore fishing season for Tuna, Dolphin, Marlin and Wahoo.

MORE GOOD NEWS: The Charter Fleet at South Jersey Marina has been quite successful this week with a fishery we haven't seen the likes of
in several years; for example, on Tuesday the Gary Hillebrand charter
on Cap't. John Ball's "Intensity" caught 14 King Mackeral, 2 Spanish Mackeral and 6 Bonito. On the same day, Cap't. Al
D'Ascenzo on the "All Geared Up" caught 2 very nice size Bluefin Tuna.

Later in the week, Clint Clemente took two young ladies fishing and weighed in a pair of Bluefin Tuna. Some guys have all the luck!
On Wednesday, Cap't. Joe Lechner took a charter out to the East Lump and captured 10 King Mackeral, 7 Bonito and 2 Bluefin Tuna. Flounder is still being caght in the ocean. Keepers are available on the Ridge, not too far from our inlet. The ever popular Croaker has also made an appearance. By this time next week, we'll be catching  them in very large numbers.

Fishing this week at South Jersey Marina was hampered by inclement weather; wind, rain and fog. There were however, a few bright spots  ;
On Monday, Cap't Al on the "All Geared Up" caught a season high flounder of 8.4 pounds. On Wednesday, Cap't. John on the "Intensity" brought in 8 flounder and 2 bluefish (picture attached). On Friday, Cap't.
Bill on the "Jen & Tonic caught 4 flounder and 2 sea bass.
Shark fishing was interesting this week; Cap't. Andy Merendino was drifting for mako when of all things, a 21.3 dolphin fish (mahi-mahi) came 6' out of the water and continued to jump 3 or 4 more times
trying to get off the hook. Needless to say, Andy won that fight.

As the summer sun continues to warm up our waters here, the fishing will only get better!!!

Stay tuned.....

As our Charter Fleet at South Jersey Marina continues their pursuit of the Bluefin Tuna located northeast of Cape May and the Seabass on the wrecks, several captains had good results this week.

Cap't. Bill Bittmann on the "Top Shelf" had 7 Bluefin, 4 Bonito and 14 Bluefish on one trip. Later in the week he brought in 35 Seabass, the largest of which were in the 4 lb. class.

Cap't. Bob Francis on the "Gallant Lady" had a real nice size Mako shark and Cap't. Clint Clement on the "Common Sense" had 6 Bluefish.

We're happy to report that the Bluefish are back this year in large numbers and size. Trolling for "slammer blues" can be quite an experience...almost like the good old days.

This week at South Jersey Marina , the Charter Boat fleet produced some very good results:
"Gallant Lady" made several trips this week and on 6/16 caught 16 keeper flounder. The heaviest fish in that group was 5.3 pounds.

"All Geared Up had a charter with Bob Lewis of Avalon and had 10 keeper flounder. Their heaviest was 4.1 pounds 9Picture attached).

"Top Shelf" cught 19 nice sized blue fish earlier in the week.

"Hooked Up" weighed in a 168 pound Mako.

On Saturday,"Noreaster II" went on a sea bass trip over a wreck. During the first 15 minutes of fishing they spotted a shark. A quick change in the type of bait and tackle and they managed to land and weigh in
a 382 pound thresher shark (picture attached).

THE BLUE FIN TUNA ARRIVED IN OUR WATERS ABOUT 25 MILES OFFSHORE ON SATURDAY !!
