Philadelphia Boys Choir Day in Cape May Saturday, Sept. 8

Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale, under the musical direction of Jeffrey R. Smith, presents a full- length concert featuring classical music, pop and Americana on Saturday evening, September 8 at 8 p.m. in the brand new Cape May Convention Hall.  The full-length concert features eighty choir members complemented by a men’s chorale and Mr. Smith on the piano.  Cape May Convention Hall is situated at 714 Beach Avenue which provides exceptional, unparalleled views of the beachfront and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Choir’s concert will mark the highlight of “Philadelphia Boys Choir Day in Cape May” as proclaimed by Cape May City Council.  As part of their educational and recreational opportunities during this special day, the choir members will be treated to trolley tours of historic Cape May, a whale-watching cruise on the ocean, a guided tour of the United States Coast Guard Training Center, a fudge beating activity at Fudge Kitchen, and dinner at the picturesque Aleathea’s Restaurant in the historic and oceanfront Inn of Cape May.

Tickets can be ordered by telephone by calling (609) 884-9563 or 1-855-708-9699.  Tickets can also be obtained online at www.capemaycity.com or can be purchased in person at the Box Office daily at Cape May Convention Hall.  All seating will be General Admission Seating only.  Tickets are priced at $20.00 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $10 for children 12 years and above.  Admission for children less than 12 years is free when accompanied by a paying adult and purchased in person at the Cape May Convention Hall Box Office.  Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more persons with the ticket price being $10 per person.  A facility fee is included in each ticket price.  Doors will open for admission at 7:15 p.m.

PBCC has toured the world since 1968 and appeared in over 63 countries on 6 continents. The Choir was one of the first to make a historic trip to Cuba and has visited China three times. The first trip around the word was in 1977. During a recent tour to Argentina and Uruguay, the Choir received standing ovations at every concert. In 2008, the Choir performed at two prestigious summer festivals: Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany and the Granada Festival in Spain. A successful tour to China was the highlight of 2010 and in 2011, PBCC performed at the Grand Teton Festival.

This summer the group traveled to the Baltics, with performances in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland, including a private concert for the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, and guests.

Any boy age 7-12 is welcome to audition to become a part of this area’s finest musical ensemble. No experience necessary. Just a passion for singing, a desire to perform, make new friends, and travel extensively.
